Judge to Universal: can’t sue Veoh investors for infringement
6 02 2009Content owners suing over copyright infringement cannot go after investors, a federal judge has ruled. Universal Music Group’s lawsuit against video sharing site Veoh is slowly being chipped away by Judge A. Howard Matz, who has rejected UMG’s attempt to name Veoh’s investors as defendants in the suit. According to Matz, investors are just doing their jobs; even if the company itself had facilitated copyright infringement, it does not mean that those who “control” the company are necessarily liable.
